Bale Mountain Coffee Farm
Located roughly 400km south of the capital city Addis Adaba is the district of Nensebo, in west Arsi, Oromia. Nensebo is becoming renown in our industry for it’s distinctive and high quality coffees.
This coffee comes from the Bale Mountain Coffee Farm, a shade coffee plantation established in 2013, owned by Ethiopian businessman Israel Degfa. It was gifted to him by his grandmother Mrs. Wagayehu Bekele Debela, who use to grow coffee there alongside wheat and barley.
Israel talks about the work done on the farm since taking over, planting high quality seedlings organically in strict 2.5m x 2.5m spacing, under the shade of large indigenous trees that provide both shade(duh), nitrogen, and natural organic soil content.
Process
This coffee is naturally processed in classic sundried fashion that is common in Ethiopia. The Bale Mountain farm focus’ on natural processing coffee, which I think shows in the cup as being super consistent.
This coffee is naturally sundried fermented on raised beds, the sundried cherries are hulled at Bale Mountain's station.
in the cup! This coffee is tasting SO good! very bright and vibrant blueberry rounded out with a sweet vanilla custard, and a lovely aromatic lavender. Super clean with no funk.
