I had the unique privilege in July 2024 of visiting Reinel Borbon at his farm El Espejo in Santa Maria. Visiting his farm was one of the many highlights of my trip to Colombia, and a great experience with Stephen from Coffee Quest.
Greeted with friendly handshakes, a plate of food for someone with twice my appetite, and a generous amount of Guarapo (sugar cane juice), Reinel took us through his farm, showing off his healthy Pink Bourbon and Caturra spread throughout the steep hills.
This is our second release from Reinel, and we're so impressed by the huge flavours coming out of this washed pink bourbon. Looking at his farm you can tell he takes his coffee seriously, with beautifully kept plants, separated covered drying beds, and plenty of room dedicated to special fermentations.
This Pink Bourbon starts with hand selecting ripe cherries, and an initial 20-hour dry fermentation in the cherry before being de-pulped. After de-pulping the parchment is put directly into open tanks for a 48-hour wet fermentation, really bringing the big flavours in.
Once fermentation has finished the coffee is washed, and spread on the drying beds positioned on top of his house. Reinel insures consistent drying with a solar covering, and regular turning of the coffee.
We're super impressed with this Pink Bourbon lot, almost reminding us of Ethiopian Geisha with its big fruit and soft jasmine notes. Super tiny 2 bag lot, so it's not here for long, enjoy!
